II. Text Formatting


Paragraph Answers
1.Explain the methods to change the font (Style).
·         A font is a set of characters and numbers in a certain style.
·         Each font looks different from other fonts
To change the Font style
·   Select the text
·   Click on Format ->  Character option
·   Character dialog box appears
·   In Character dialog box, click on Font tag
·   Click the down arrow in the Fonts Combo Box
·   From the list of available fonts, click the required one.
·   The selected text changes to the selected font.
2.How can we change the font size?
The size of a font is measured in points, and there are 72 points to an inch
To change the font size
·   Select the text
·   Click on Format -> Character option
·   Character dialog box appears
·   In Character dialog box, click on Font tag
·   Click the down arrow in the Size combo box
The text changes to the selected font size.
3.Describe the methods to change the font colour .
I-Method
·   Select the text
·   Click on Format ->  Character option
·   Character dialog box appears
·   In Character dialog box, click on Font Effect tag
·   Click the down arrow in the Font color combo box
·   Select the required colour in a colour palette
II-Method
·   Select the text and click the arrow in the Font Colour icon in formatting tool bar
·   Select the required colour in a colour palette
·   Click on the Font colour icon, to apply the current colour of the Font Colour
4.Explain the method of aligning a paragraph
·   One of the most common changes is to change the alignment of a paragraph.
·   One can apply the paragraph formatting options to a single paragraph or to several paragraphs
Four types of alignment can be selected
·   They are Left, Right, Center and justify
To align a paragraph
Select the paragraph
·         Click on Paragraph alignment icon from the Formatting tool bar

·         To left align text                   -Click on    icon
·         To right align text                 -Click on      icon
·         To center align text               -Click on      icon
·         To justify text                        -Click on   icon
Keyboard shortcuts
·         To left align text                    ctrl + L
·         To right align text                  ctrl + R
·         To center align text                ctrl + E
·         To justify text                        ctrl + J
5. How can we Indent text with the Paragraph dialog box?
To indent the text using the Paragraph dialog box:
Move the insertion point to the beginning of the paragraph to be indented
To indent several paragraphs, select those paragraphs.
Select Format-> Paragraph Command.
Click the Indents & Spacing tab in the Paragraph dialog box.
 Do any of the following:
·   To indent from the left, type the amount in the Before text spin box or use the spin arrows to select a value.
·   To indent text from the right, type the amount in the After text spin box or use the spin arrows to select a value.
·   Click the OK button
·   The first line option can be used to indent the line of the paragraph
·   Using the spin arrows, a negative value is specified, 
the first line will hang outside the paragraph is called Hanging indent                                            
6. How can we Indent text with the tool bar?
To  indent text using the Tool bar:
·   Move the insertion point to the beginning of the paragraph to be indented
·   To indent several paragraphs, select those paragraphs.
Increase Indent
·   Click the Increase Indent  icon  the paragraph is indented 1/2 inch from the left margin.
·   The button again can be clicked to increase the indent.
·   Each time the button is clicked the paragraph is indented another 1/2 inch.
Decrease Indent
·   To decrease of undo the indent ,click on Decrease Indent icon
 7. What are the steps to be followed to change the line spacing?
The Space between  two lines is called line spacing .
There are 7 line spacing options available in staroffice writer.
·   They are Single line, 1.5 lines, Double, Proportional, Atleast, Leading and Fixed
·   Single line is a default line spacing.
To change the line spacing, following steps are used:
·   Select the paragraphs(s) that needs to be changed.
·   Select Format -> Paragraph.
·   In Paragraph dialog box, Click the Indents & Spacing tab.
·   Click on the Line spacing drop-down list box, and
·   Select the  required line spacing option.
·   Click the OK button
8. How can we apply different styles for Bullets and Nmnbers?
S.O Writer provides various styles for the bullets and numbers,
To apply Bullets
Using Bullets & Numbering Dialog box
·   Select the text that to which bullets are to be added.
·   Click on Format -> Bullets and Numbering.
·   Bullets and Numbering dialog box appears
·   Click on Bullets tag
·   Select the desired one from the various options available for bullets .
·   Click on OK
Using Formatting toolbar
·   Select the text
·   Click on the bullets icon from formatting tool bar
·   Staroffice writer creates a bulleted list.
To apply Numbers
Using Bullets & Numbering Dialog box
·   in Bullets & Numbering dialog box
·   Click on Numbering tag
·   Select the desired one from the various options available for numbers , Click on OK

There are several ways of accessing in the StarOffice Help are

·   This command opens the StarOffice help where you can search for a help topic.

This facility can be used by clicking on the Help menu.

Select the No Fill from the colour palette.

·   The paragraph marker is the storehouse for all formatting options for that paragraph.
·   Each time, Enter pressed, the paragraph options for that paragraph are carried down to the next paragraph.
·   If a paragraph marker is deleted the paragraph takes on the formatting of following paragraph.
